Yang Guoqiang is the Deputy Director of the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection; Researcher; Doctoral Supervisor; and Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Reaction Dynamics. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Peking University in 1985, and earned both a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Photochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988 and 1991, respectively. From 1992 to 1993, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at Kyoto University in Japan and as a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow. From 1996 to 1999, he was a postdoctoral fellow and research assistant in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States. In 1998, he was selected for the Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
We conduct research on the design, synthesis, properties, and underlying mechanisms of organic optofunctional compounds, including the effects of molecular structure, supramolecular structure, and aggregate states on luminescent and nonlinear optical properties; the influence of environmental conditions—including ultra-high-pressure conditions—on luminescent properties and electronic structures, as well as their corresponding mechanisms; and the design and performance studies of novel fluorescent probe systems. We have published over 180 research papers and filed 15 Chinese invention patent applications and 2 international patents. Currently, I serve as a member of the Standing Council, Secretary-General, and Deputy Director of the Photochemistry Professional Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society; a director of the Asia-Oceania Photochemistry Council; and an Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member of J. Photochem. Photobiol. A: Chem.; as well as an editorial board member of “Imaging Science and Photochemistry” and “Journal of High Pressure Physics.”
