Qiu Jianrong received his bachelor’s degree from Shaanxi University of Science and Technology in July 1983, his master’s degree from Wuhan University of Technology in July 1986, and his doctoral degree in engineering from Okayama University in Japan in March 1992. He spent 16 years studying and working at institutions including Kyoto University in Japan and Cornell University in the United States. In 2000, he was selected for the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ “Introduction of Outstanding Overseas Talents” Hundred Talents Program; in 2001, he received the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists; in 2005, he became a Qiu Shi Distinguished Professor at the College of Materials and Chemical Engineering of Zhejiang University; and in 2009, he was appointed as a Changjiang Distinguished Professor by the Ministry of Education at South China University of Technology, concurrently serving as the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices at South China University of Technology. He has long been engaged in research on novel optofunctional materials and the interaction between lasers and materials.
