The China-US Semiconductor Industry Association announced the establishment of the “China-US Semiconductor Industry Technology and Trade Restrictions Working Group.”

After multiple rounds of discussions and consultations, the semiconductor industry associations of China and the United States announced today the joint establishment of the “China-U.S. Semiconductor Industry Technology and Trade Restrictions Working Group.” This group will set up a timely communication and information-sharing mechanism for the semiconductor industries of both countries, facilitating exchanges on policies related to export controls, supply-chain security, encryption, and other technology and trade restrictions.

The two national associations hope to strengthen communication and exchange through the working group, thereby fostering deeper mutual understanding and trust. The working group will adhere to the principles of fair competition, intellectual property protection, and global trade rules, and will address the concerns of the semiconductor industries in China and the U.S. through dialogue and cooperation, jointly striving to build a robust and resilient global semiconductor value chain.

The working group plans to hold two meetings each year to share the latest developments in both countries’ policies on technology and trade restrictions. Based on areas of mutual concern, the working group will develop corresponding policy recommendations and identify topics that require further research. This year’s working group meeting will be held online; in the future, depending on the easing of the pandemic situation, face-to-face meetings will be convened.

Based on the outcome of the consultations, each association will appoint 10 semiconductor member companies to participate in the working group. Each association will share relevant information and engage in dialogue with the other. The two associations will be responsible for the specific organizational arrangements of the working group.
