Achieve comprehensive development of domestically produced semiconductor materials, and welcome multinational corporations to jointly build a local industrial chain.

On September 15, the 2020 China Semiconductor Materials Innovation Conference was held in Hefei Xinzhan. In his speech, Yang Xudong, Deputy Director of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that the semiconductor industry is the cornerstone of new infrastructure and a strategic industry that promotes the intelligent development of the economy and society. Meanwhile, semiconductor materials are a key link in advancing manufacturing technology.

Yang Xudong stated that in recent years, China’s semiconductor industry has made significant progress. However, we should also soberly recognize that China’s semiconductor industry is still in its early stages and has considerable room for further development compared to the international standard.

Yang Xudong emphasized that the semiconductor industry—both in China and globally—should pool more collective wisdom, better plan for the future, seize opportunities, and achieve broader, more comprehensive, and higher-quality development of the semiconductor materials industry. He also welcomed multinational corporations to come to China and jointly build local supply chains.

Regarding Hefei, Yang Xudong pointed out that Hefei has now preliminarily established a complete semiconductor industry chain covering design, materials, equipment, manufacturing, and downstream applications—this represents an important milestone for the national semiconductor industry.
