Ye Tianchun: The domestic integrated circuit industry needs to shift from rapid growth to high-quality development.

According to a report by Jiwei.com (written by Oliver), on September 10, the China Semiconductor Materials Innovation and Development Conference officially kicked off in Beilun, Ningbo. Ye Tianchun, Director of the Institute of Microelectronics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stated that China’s integrated circuit industry must shift from high-speed development to high-quality development.

Ye Tianchun stated that the semiconductor industry has seen rapid and remarkable development over the past decade. The semiconductor materials industry simply cannot thrive without the support of its users. Integrated circuits themselves are a manufacturing sector with extremely high operating costs. As the industrial chain undergoes wave after wave of relocation, building a local supply chain can help reduce overall operating costs, which represents a significant contribution to the industry.

Ye Tianchun pointed out that the current self-sufficiency rate for domestically produced semiconductor materials is only around 25%. In the face of new opportunities, we need to focus on the following four areas:

First, we must overcome existing challenges and embrace new ones—this holds true for the industry as a whole.

Second, to shift from high-speed development to high-quality development, it is crucial to gradually establish a robust portfolio of key materials.

3. Forge an even closer bond with users and work together with them to contribute to the development of new products.

Fourth, semiconductor material companies are relatively small in size. To achieve growth, they need to integrate resources and form a few large enterprises that can support the industry.
