To accelerate the innovative development of local semiconductor materials and component enterprises, foster closer international cooperation, and build a local supply chain that is innovative, integrated, open, and mutually beneficial, the 2018 China Semiconductor Materials and Components Innovation Development Conference was held from October 29 to 31 in Beilun District, Ningbo City. The conference was co-organized by the Integrated Circuit Materials and Components Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, in collaboration with the Beilun District People's Government, the Ningbo Electronics Industry Association, and the U.S. Critical Materials Council. Liang Qun, member of the Standing Committee of the Ningbo Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Beilun District Party Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Also attending the conference were leaders including Zheng Jian, Deputy Director of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, as well as approximately 400 experts, scholars, and technical personnel from the semiconductor industry both domestically and internationally.
As a specialized international forum dedicated to semiconductor materials and components in China, this conference has invited nearly 30 senior executives and renowned experts from both domestic and international semiconductor companies to deliver professional presentations. Among the guests are Lei Haibo, President of Shanghai HuaLi Microelectronics Co., Ltd.; Steven Johnston, Director of Global Supply Chain Management and Supplier Technology Development at Intel Corporation in the U.S.; John West, General Manager of VLSI Research for Europe; Yin Zhiyao, Chairman of AMEC Semiconductor Equipment Co., Ltd., and others. The participants will engage in exchanges and discussions on topics such as trends in semiconductor manufacturing materials and component technologies, market demand and supply chain development trends, pathways for international cooperation and localization integration, and policies for collaborative innovation and development within the semiconductor manufacturing industry chain—working together to promote high-quality and efficient development of China’s semiconductor industry.
The conference also arranged one-on-one matchmaking sessions between domestic suppliers of relevant materials and components and internationally renowned high-end semiconductor manufacturers, aiming to facilitate precise alignment between the domestic supply chain and international chipmakers such as Intel and NXP. Ningbo Jiangfeng Electronics Co., Ltd. participated in these matchmaking sessions.
According to reports, Ningbo is one of the earliest cities in China to develop the semiconductor industry and has become a well-known domestic base for semiconductor materials. Currently, the city boasts a relatively complete industrial foundation covering basic semiconductor materials, integrated circuit design, chip manufacturing, packaging and testing, and specialized gases. Meanwhile, the semiconductor industry is also an important component of the “3511” industrial system that our city has explicitly identified as part of its efforts to build a pilot demonstration city under the “Made in China 2025” initiative. Statistics show that in the first half of this year, the city’s total industrial output value of the semiconductor and related industries reached 9.47 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 15.4%, demonstrating strong growth momentum.
Beilun District is actively developing emerging high-end industries such as integrated circuits as a strategic priority to seize the commanding heights in the new round of industrial competition and achieve high-quality regional development. As an important hub for the semiconductor industry in Ningbo City, Beilun has already attracted a number of key projects, including SMIC, Nanjing University Optoelectronics, and Anji Microelectronics. Beilun is committed to becoming a first-class domestic and internationally renowned manufacturing base for analog semiconductors, as well as a leading domestic and globally recognized center for the R&D, production, and logistics distribution of semiconductor materials and components.
