Shandong Youyan Semiconductor Officially Begins Mass Production on the Production Line.

On October 16, Shandong Youyan Semiconductor Materials Co., Ltd. held a ceremony marking the start of mass production for its large-size silicon material project intended for integrated circuits. At the ceremony, Tu Hailing, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, announced that the project had officially entered full-scale production. Zhao Xiaochen, Party Secretary and Chairman of Youyan Group, and Li Meng, Secretary of the Dezhou Municipal Party Committee, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Yang Hongtao, Deputy Secretary of the Dezhou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, presided over the ceremony. Leaders from Youyan Group and Dezhou Municipality, as well as representatives from relevant enterprises and research institutions, participated in the event.

Zhao Xiaochen stated that, as China’s engineering and industrial technology innovation base for silicon materials boasting internationally advanced standards, Youyan Group, together with the Dezhou Municipal Government, is jointly building a large-scale production project for high-quality silicon materials used in integrated circuits. This initiative reflects Youyan Group’s commitment to staying at the forefront of global technological development and represents an inevitable choice aligned with Shandong’s development plans and national strategic needs. The project’s successful transition to mass production will contribute new strength to addressing China’s “bottleneck” challenges in key materials for integrated circuits.

Li Meng stated that the successful commissioning of the Shandong Youyan project represents a significant achievement in Dezhou City’s coordinated efforts to control the epidemic and promote economic and social development, as well as its accelerated drive toward high-quality development. This project fills a “critical link” in the electronic information industry chain, attracting a number of upstream and downstream supporting enterprises to set up operations in the city. As a result, the city’s core competitiveness and overall development level in the electronic information industry will be greatly enhanced, providing strong impetus to the pace of building an innovative city.

Shandong Youyan Semiconductor Materials Co., Ltd.’s “Large-Scale Production Base Project for Large-Size Silicon Materials for Integrated Circuits” signed a strategic cooperation agreement at the “CPC Central Enterprises Supporting Shandong’s Transformation of Old and New Growth Drivers Symposium” in June 2018, establishing its base in Dezhou. The project covers a total area of 650 mu and has a total investment of 8 billion yuan. It ranked first on Shandong Province’s list of key projects for 2019.

Construction began in March 2019. Faced with an extremely tight schedule, the sudden outbreak of COVID-19, and unfavorable rainy weather conditions, the research team rose to the challenge, implemented scientific epidemic prevention measures, actively optimized construction procedures, and remained firmly on-site to ensure smooth coordination. After nearly 18 months, they successfully completed the construction of a factory building covering nearly 100,000 square meters, the installation of a 15,000-square-meter cleanroom facility, the installation of newly purchased process equipment, and the relocation and process commissioning of the Beijing production line—demonstrating both professionalism and high efficiency throughout the project.

The completion and commissioning of the project mark a solid step forward for Youyan Semiconductor toward building the largest large-silicon wafer production base for integrated circuits in northern China. The facility now has an annual production capacity of 4.56 million 6- and 8-inch silicon wafers and 300 tons of 12- to 18-inch silicon single crystals, significantly enhancing the company’s competitiveness and sustainable development capabilities, and laying a strong foundation for the subsequent implementation of 12-inch silicon wafers.
