　　The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) is a mass organization of science and technology workers in China, composed of national societies, associations, research institutes, and local science and technology associations. Its organizational structure spans across most natural science disciplines and the majority of industrial sectors, forming a network-based organizational system with extensive coverage. In September 1958, with approval from the Party Central Committee, the All-China Federation of Science and Technology Associations and the All-China Association for Popularization of Science merged to establish the China Association for Science and Technology.

　　The China Association for Science and Technology has now grown into a scientific and technological organization comprising 167 national societies established according to disciplines in natural sciences, technical sciences, engineering technologies, and related fields, as well as 31 provincial-level associations and an extensive network of local and grassroots organizations, with a membership exceeding 4.3 million.
