The 718th Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation and Beijing University of Technology have signed an agreement to establish a Research and Development Center for Special Materials via Vapor Deposition.

On December 21, 2016, the 718th Institute of CSSC Heavy Industry and Beijing University of Technology officially signed a cooperation agreement to jointly establish a Research and Development Center for Special Materials via Vapor Deposition. Du Gang, Deputy General Manager of CSSC Heavy Industry, and Luo Jiyuan, Director of the Department of Science & Technology and Informationization, as well as Zhao Changlu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing University of Technology, and Yang Bin, Executive Vice President of the university, attended the signing ceremony. Li Junhua, Director of the 718th Institute, and Wang Lu, Dean of the Research Institute of Beijing University of Technology, signed the agreement. Representatives from relevant departments and units of both sides also participated in the ceremony. The holding of the signing ceremony marks the full launch of the R&D collaboration between the 718th Institute and Beijing University of Technology. According to the agreement,

According to the agreement, both parties will be market-demand oriented, leveraging the industrialization capabilities of Institute 718 and supported by Beijing University of Technology’s advanced technologies in the materials field, to jointly promote the industrial application and development of special materials produced via vapor-phase deposition. The R&D center will serve as a platform for cooperation between the two sides, as well as a testing and industrialization base for new technological research findings. The director of the center will be Wang Shaobo, deputy director of Institute 718.

Vice General Manager Du Gang stated that Institute 718 and Beijing University of Technology enjoy a highly complementary relationship with strong mutual advantages. This collaboration represents the best approach for fully leveraging each party’s strengths, seamlessly integrating industry, academia, and research, and simultaneously meeting both the needs of core technology research and industrialization. It also serves as a concrete manifestation of Institute 718’s proactive implementation of CSSC Heavy Industry’s new strategic goal of building an innovative leading enterprise characterized by “military-civilian integration, technological leadership, and integrated industry-finance.”

Director Li Junhua provided a detailed introduction to the military and civilian technology industries of Institute 718 and its development plan for the 13th Five-Year Plan period. He stated that, going forward, taking the establishment of the R&D center as an opportunity, they will strengthen comprehensive cooperation with Beijing University of Technology, leveraging each other’s strengths and striving to build the R&D center into an incubation platform for a series of industries, thereby achieving mutual benefits, win-win outcomes, and common development.

Secretary Zhao Changlu praised the remarkable achievements made by Institute 718 in the development of its science and technology industries, and expressed his hope that both sides would continue to explore new avenues and build new platforms based on the R&D center as a platform, actively cooperating and working together for common development.
