On August 9, 2013, the Domestic Materials Supply and Demand Matchmaking Meeting (SMIC Demand Matchmaking Meeting) jointly promoted by the Integrated Circuit Materials & Components Industry Technology Innovative Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the “Materials Alliance”) and SMIC was successfully held in Shanghai. Academician Wang Xi, Chairman of the Materials Alliance, attended the meeting. Dr. Qiu Ciyun, CEO of SMIC, led the responsible person of material verification and application evaluation of four major factories including SMIC Shanghai 8-inch Factory and Factory 8, Beijing Factory and Tianjin Factory 7 to attend the meeting with more than 100 responsible persons from the technical, quality and marketing sales of member units of the Alliance from all over the country.

The supply and demand matchmaking exchange on domestic material mass production application was carried out in the meeting. Dr. Kang Jin, Director of SMIC International Joint Laboratory, reported on the verification status and demand of SMIC domestic materials. The problems of the domestic materials in the verification process and possible solutions, as well as the recommendations of the Alliance and National Science and Technology 02 Major Project Office were discussed in groups. A total of 8 units including Jiangfeng Electronics, Anji Microelectronics, 718th Institute of CSIC, Shanghai Sinyang, Grinm Semiconductor, Grikin, Beijing Kempur and Hebei University of Technology reported the technology development and application verification of related materials. SMIC recognized seven outstanding teams in the evaluation of domestic materials applications.

At present, there are 40 kinds of materials that have been verified and being verified. 18 materials from many CMP polishing liquids of Anji Microelectronics, various sputtering targets of Jiangfeng Electronics, and two electronic gases of 718th institute of CSIC and electroplating solution of Sinyang Semiconductor have been purchased in batches, and five other materials are expected to be purchased in batches during the year.

Since 2011, SMIC has vigorously promoted the cultivation of local suppliers. The company has established an operation management mechanism to promote mass production and batch procurement of domestic materials, including personnel in departments of research and development of process, evaluation and certification, production operation, material procurement, etc. In various departments, the actual amount of domestically purchased materials in batches has also increased year by year. Dr. Qiu Ciyun, CEO of SMIC, said: "As a world-class wafer OEM, SMIC has always required local materials companies to meet international standards. We will never lower standards because that the material is 'domestically produced'. I hope that domestic material manufacturers continue to improve product quality and strive to provide more quality and cheap products for SMIC. SMIC will continue to support domestic materials companies and purchase verified materials. Let’s work together to achieve a win-win situation for manufacturers and material suppliers.

Shi Ying, Secretary General of the Materials Alliance presided over the meeting. Dr. Wu Hanming, Vice President of SMIC also attended the meeting.
